Intercultural Relations, Identity and Citizenship: A Comparative Study of Australia, France and GermanyProf. Dr. Michael Bommes Project partner: Prof. Dr. Stephen Castles, COMPAS Oxford The international research project on ›Intercultural Relations, Identity and Citizenship: A Comparative Study of Australia, France and Germany‹, was funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. The project dealt with the social changes brought about by immigration after World War II in Australia, France and Germany. The main assumptions are that all three countries have been immigration countries after World War II; that this has brought about important social changes in all three countries; and that these changes had major effects on historically established forms of social identity and citizenship. The project was carried out at the Centre for Asia Pacific Social Transformation Studies at the University of Wollongong, Australia, at the Centre d’Etudes et de Recherches Internationales in Paris, France, and at the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies at the University of Osnabrück, Germany.
